Biography artist: Johannes Hilverdink (1813-1902) was a Dutch painter, draughtsman and lithographer. Born in Groningen and active mainly in Amsterdam, he studied at the local drawing academy and became known for romantic landscapes and marine views. Hilverdink worked primarily in watercolour, pastel and lithography and was a member of the artists’ society Arti et Amicitiae. His atmospheric river landscapes and rural scenes reflect the Romantic tradition in 19th-century Dutch landscape art.
